Tips for virtual interviews

During the Interview

  1. Log In Early:

    • Join the meeting 5-10 minutes early to account for any last-minute technical issues.
  2. Introduce Yourself:

    • Greet the interviewer with a smile and a professional introduction.
    • Confirm that they can hear and see you clearly.
  3. Maintain Good Body Language:

    • Sit up straight and make eye contact with the camera to simulate direct eye contact.
    • Nod and use facial expressions to show engagement and understanding.
  4. Communicate Clearly:

    • Speak slowly and clearly, and avoid talking over the interviewer.
    • Pause briefly after speaking to ensure the interviewer has finished before you respond.
  5. Be Prepared for Common Questions:

    • Practice responses to common interview questions like “Tell me about yourself,” “Why do you want to work here?” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
    • Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers.
  6. Ask Your Questions:

    • Use the opportunity to ask insightful questions about the role, team, company culture, and next steps.
  7. Stay Focused and Engaged:

    • Avoid distractions such as checking your phone or looking away from the screen.
    • Keep your attention on the interviewer and the conversation.
